Pre-wedding Portrait Session stroll in the French Quarter

Why do a portrait session before the wedding?

Kirk and Shauvan asked me to do a photo session with them on a few weeks before their wedding date, and I was happy to oblige.  Many clients like to use some of the shots for things like a guestbook or enlargements that are displayed at the wedding, but more importantly for me, doing a short portrait session before the wedding can be a great way for the photographer and client to get to know one another in a relaxed setting, and get a good working rapport happening.  Weddings are of course often hectic and fast-paced, and it helps immensely to know a bit about the client's desires, personality and appearance.  It can also be a great way for clients to get a set of high quality images of them in more casual clothes, something that many couples don't find time for otherwise.  The date of their wedding was one of the coldest days of the year in New Orleans, so I was very glad we had already successfully gotten them a great set of portraits.
